Will people know I filed Bankruptcy?

I think I'm going to file for bankruptcy, and I was wondering if people (in my town, etc.) will know that I did.  Posted on The Forum by worried.

Editor's Response:

Probably not, unless you tell someone who spreads the word.  Bankruptcy filings are public records, however.  So, in theory, someone could do some research and discover your filing.  Also, the credit bureaus will definitely record your bankruptcy and keep it on your credit record for 10 years.  Accordingly, if you apply for a loan at the local bank, they will know.
